Dear Seniors,
My company's Head Office is in Mumbai, and I am working in a branch office in Punjab. We belong to the service industry. Very soon, the labor officer is going to visit our company. Please suggest what kind of statutory registers we have to maintain. Also, what kind of abstract of Acts do we need to display on the notice board?
We have an online attendance system in place. 90% of the staff are retainers, and the rest are employees. ESIC sub-code has not been taken. ESIC and PF contribution and returns work are handled by the Head Office.

Dear Mandeep_s,
The Government Labour Officer who is planning to visit you can inspect your records under the following enactments:
(i) Payment of Wages Act;
(ii) Minimum Wages Act;
(iii) Maharashtra Minimum HRA Act;
(iv) Equal Remuneration Act; and
(v) Payment of Bonus Act.
You need to show him the following registers and records:
(i) Muster Roll;
(ii) Wage Register;
(iii) HRA Registers A and I;
(iv) Leave Book and Leave Card;
(v) Bonus Register A, B, and C;
(vi) Overtime Register;
(vii) Damage Register;
(viii) Fine Register;
(ix) Advance Register;
(x) Equal Remuneration Register D; etc.
You need to display the following documents on your notice board:
(i) S&E license;
(ii) Notice of hours of work, date of payment, date of unpaid payment, rate of salary, name/address of GLO and In-charge of your establishment, etc.;
(iii) Abstract of various applicable enactments.
You need to provide him with a visit book to write his remarks.
If you have not obtained permission to maintain the attendance data electronically, I suggest you maintain the attendance register manually for January and February to show the officer. It should not take much time.
It seems to me there is a grey area. It should be the other way around.
It is not within the jurisdiction of the Government Labour Officer.
