I have been working with a medical devices company since October 2010 as Manager HR & Admin. Prior to this, I have 4 years of experience in the HR domain. The workload was manageable when I initially joined this company, but as time went on, after completing essential tasks such as HR policies related to leave, attendance, and office timings, as well as changes in the salary structure, personnel files and documentation, and statutory compliance, I found myself with less work. Performance appraisals are conducted annually at the discretion of management.

Currently, my main focus is on attendance at the beginning of each month, along with other minor tasks like issuing letters, notices, and handling office administration. I often find myself with idle time, which is quite concerning.

Seeking Advice on Expanding HR Knowledge

I am eager to enhance my HR knowledge and gain practical exposure to the latest trends in HR. However, I feel constrained by being limited to basic functions in my current role. Despite suggesting initiatives like an employee satisfaction survey to my boss, he has been unwilling to explore further implementation.

As my years of experience accumulate, I am concerned that my exposure to different HR areas remains restricted. I would greatly appreciate any advice you could offer.

Thank you,

Jyoti Ansari

I would like to add a few more lines to my initial post. As I have shared, I implemented some policies upon joining. Changes were made in the salary structure, resulting in a reduction of the basic salary and bonuses. Additionally, adjustments were made to the leave policy, leading to a decrease in leave encashment.

Unfortunately, most of the staff members are not engaging with me. They seem to hold me responsible for their financial losses. Moreover, our boss is reluctant to focus on motivational strategies or monetary benefits. Implementing Training & Development in this environment seems unfeasible, as the boss prohibits me from interacting with certain long-term colleagues who have ceased communication with me due to the aforementioned changes and their personal egos.

Please advise.
