I have recently joined a company dealing with education. My probation period is six months. I am receiving an average salary, but my expectations were higher. However, I did not want to create a gap in my career, so I accepted the offer.
Salary Hike Inquiry
My question is, can I ask for a salary hike before the end of the probation period, or should I wait until after the six months? During the discussion, they mentioned that for now, they will pay me this amount, and after six months, they will consider a raise. Since I needed a job at the time, I decided to join. Please advise me.
Thank you.

Evaluating Job Changes and Salary Hikes
What is your total experience? Changing jobs within a span of 6 months is not advisable. If your work is outstanding or remarkable, then I think the company will certainly look into your salary hike since no company would like to lose deserving candidates.

Factors to Consider Before Changing Jobs
You are the best judge of how much salary you deserve, considering your length of experience, knowledge, and skills. Others cannot decide whether your compensation is more or less, especially in the absence of any details provided. However, the decision to change your current job depends on four factors:
1. The demand and supply position for a job of your kind in the market.
2. The likelihood of you receiving a higher salary elsewhere.
3. The estimated time it will take for you to secure a better job.
4. Your immediate job needs and your ability to sustain yourself until you find a better job.
Consider all these factors before making a decision.

Differently, they will hike your salary; only you deserve your best performance. Burden and work pressure are parameters of jobs; you have to stabilize yourself. Most companies increase payment after the probation period based on your performance and needs. Before you leave, make sure you secure another job, as that is crucial. Before you leave, think 100 times about all your requirements and needs.

First of all, I couldn't understand what you mean by saying dealing in Education. Are you in the teaching line or dealing in teaching materials or something else? Notwithstanding, generally, almost no one implements a salary hike during a 6-month probation unless otherwise agreed upon during the negotiation that preceded the appointment. If you are still not receiving anything like that, this would be one of the rarest cases.
Salary Hike During Probation
And of course, there is absolutely no bar at all. Except that once an increment or a salary hike is granted during the probation period, irrespective of the months, it could easily be construed that he has not only deservedly earned a hike but also is deemed to have completed the probation successfully, notwithstanding whether or not there is a notification issued thereof as such.
Considerations Before Quitting
If you are satisfied with this job and salary, you can continue for some time to gain more experience and better opportunities. Otherwise, if you quit within this shorter period without any assured employment, you may face a "neither here nor there" situation. Otherwise, think twice before quitting. All the best.
