Understanding ESIC Sub-Code Requirements

Can anyone let me know about the sub-code of ESIC? We have an ESIC code registered for our corporate office in Mumbai. As a construction company employing a significant number of contract workers across various units and project sites in India, one of our projects in Maharashtra state has recently come under ESIC coverage. Now, we need to process ESI for all our employees and contract laborers. However, we are unsure whether our existing ESIC code is sufficient for all ESI processes related to this particular project, or if we need to obtain a separate registration for this site/unit.

Clarification on Registration Requirements

If it is clarified that we must acquire a separate registration by applying to the state ESIC authority, what will be the basis for registration? Should we obtain a sub-code linked to our existing one or apply for a completely separate code?

It is important to note that our corporate office is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, while the project site is situated in Nagpur district, Maharashtra state.

Your suggestions and guidance are greatly appreciated.

You need to get ESI Sub-codes for different states by mentioning your Main Code of Maharashtra. You can download the Sub-code application form from https://www.citehr.com/414093-need-p...m-minimum.html.

Thank you for guiding me. You mentioned that we don't need to obtain a sub-code for our Nagpur project site due to our registration in Maharashtra, but it is required for other states. Could you please explain what needs to be done for insurance numbers and cards in the local area (Nagpur)? How should we approach ESI and hospitals in case of any contingency?

What steps should we take?

You need to obtain the ESI subcode for the Nagpur location. Nowadays, you can directly obtain the code through the online ESIC module. Under ESI coverage, employees can receive treatment at any ESI dispensary across India. Please contact your local ESI office for further information.

You need to take a subcode for other states. If your company is working only in Maharashtra, then there is no need to take a subcode for different project sites within the state. However, if you are starting a project in Uttar Pradesh, then you need to obtain a subcode from Uttar Pradesh through the branch or state office. They will provide you with the insurance number. You can deposit the amount centrally online, but the cards will be provided by the local office only and will be valid all over India.

Your company is in the construction industry. The ESIC Act is not applicable to construction industries. If you want to start a branch office in Nagpur or another district, you need to obtain an ESIC sub-code district-wise for your office staff and non-construction workers. You should insure all construction workers under the Workmen Compensation Policy and/or CAR Policy.
