Please mention the timings of the training. Then, you may include the topics ESIC, PF, Safety Precautions, and soft skills. Also, cover HR policies such as leave, resignation, notice period, and what the organization is doing for them so that they can feel that the company is taking care of them.

Industrial safety, including safety in materials handling, fire and explosion hazards, and the use of personal protective equipment, will be the most appropriate and important theme for training. The best way is to undertake a risk assessment in the work activities and decide on the training needs.

A good number of organizations and consultants are available to support your risk assessment and training needs. Details can be provided if you need.

Best wishes for your venture.

For the sustainability and growth of any business organization, training is a must for its employees. It should be an ongoing process and include both technical skills and behavioral competencies, including soft skills. For need-based training, you need to undertake a survey of the employees beforehand and take suitable actions accordingly. Trainings should be both participative and interactive so that the purpose is more fruitful.

In the automotive manufacturing industry, the main focus is on delivering on time, achieving Zero PPM, ensuring zero accidents, and maintaining the 5-S on the shop floor. All these results are achieved through the shop-floor-related staff, mainly the workforce and supervisory staff. To achieve good results, focus on the bottom-line staff and middle management.

In addition to all the suggestions given by our peers, I would like to add the following:

ISO/TS 16949 as a Foundation

ISO/TS 16949 is the foundation. All employees must be aware of the requirements. For processes, Statistical Process Control (SPC) must be practiced throughout the organization. Training on the Basic 7QC tools, Poka Yoke, and Naze-Naze (Why-Why/Root Cause Analysis) is essential for an engineer's arsenal of problem-solving tools to reduce variation in the process and address customer complaints.

Problem-Solving and Reporting Requirements

The 8 Disciplines of problem-solving/report writing will be a requirement for addressing customer complaints. Additionally, some automotive customers follow the German spec: VDA version 6.2.

I hope that my input is relevant to your query.

To do it in a structured way, you need to conduct a TNA (Training Needs Analysis) by identifying the gaps within the management structure. Based on this analysis, you can create a training calendar. Conduct inbound training in areas where many employees need to hone specific skill sets. Send participants to public programs on specific topics. Additionally, there should be an induction for new joiners, or you could conduct induction programs if they have not been done earlier.

In the training calendar, include a mix of behavioral and technical aspects according to the organization's requirements. You can also conduct sessions on statutory topics, laws, and finance, as these are general topics that all employees need to know for their day-to-day activities. Following this structured approach in the long run is recommended. The training program should be followed by a study on effectiveness, assessment, impact, and ROI.

I am working in the same field as you. I struggled at first with fixing training programs for employees in the automobile sector. Finally, I came to know that soft skill training is more important than technical training programs. So, I suggest you provide soft skill training at various levels. It will help employees develop a positive attitude and mentality.

Importance of Training

We should keep in mind that training is given to:

• Fill up the gaps in performance/skills.
• Prepare the employees for future assignments/requirements.

Conducting a Training Needs Analysis (TNA)

To ascertain these gaps and requirements, a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) is to be done in the first place. Then, you have to draw the training programs to meet these needs. How you conduct the TNA depends on the size and structure of the company.

I do not believe in the old methods of training. I just think that today's employees are smart workers. They have the potential to do things, but the attitude may not reach that level. Here, we want to develop the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) of the employees because 100% of the result is influenced by attitude formation.

Hi Vini, as you are looking for awareness programs relevant to the manufacturing industry, I would suggest checking out the Cycle 1 courses from The "Supply Chain Foundation" (SCF). The entry course is available in most large cities in India.

Before, I faced the same problems in identifying the needs and wants of the employees in our company. Continuous evaluation, repeated observation, questionnaires, and close observation have helped me identify the specific needs of employees in the manufacturing industry. Vini, please mention your company name and email ID. You can accept or reject my views because I am just an entry-level person in HR and need analysis methods. I hope you take my words in the same manner. I am now going through a detailed evaluation process. If you need any help from my side, you can contact me at [Phone Number Removed For Privacy Reasons].

I am looking for a specimen of a blueprint for initiating a skill development program for shop floor employees of a company with 7,000 workers on its rolls. I am looking forward to getting your help to prepare a blueprint for starting in-house skill development training programs.
