I have received an offer via email regarding salary negotiations and accepted the offer by mail ten days ago. However, I have not received the formal offer yet.

Waiting for the Formal Offer Letter

How long do I have to wait to receive the formal offer letter? Can the employer reject the offer at this point?

Thanks & Regards,
Hima

No employer should arbitrarily revoke a given appointment to a selected candidate. Throughout the recruiting process, the employer carefully considers the candidate before extending an offer. If they have reservations about the candidate, they may put the candidate on hold.

There has not been a case similar to what you have anticipated.

Scenario Where Offer May Be Delayed

Yes, in one scenario, this may occur. If the company has provided you with an offer letter/LOI (Letter of Intent), it is typically temporary. During the Background Verification (BGV) process, there may be delays in issuing the appointment order. The best way to gain clarity on this matter is to contact the company's HR department and have a calm discussion with them. If they have not informed you about the BGV process, politely inquire about it.

Do not panic; give it a few more days and try to reach out to the HR via phone or email. Keep this forum updated on your next steps for our senior members to provide further guidance.

I agree with Sharmila ji, but there are a few things I would like to know from you. Is this your first communication with them? Have you had any telephonic interviews or conversations with them regarding this before, or have you ever been with them for a formal interview and negotiations? If not, please ignore and move on. If they have ever selected you, they would certainly have asked you to visit them for a formal interview and negotiation after your acceptance by email, but it seems there is nothing like this, and it seems you have never had any telephonic interview or conversation with them in this regard.

You know that you have received an email job offer; this may possibly be a temporary offer letter or LOI to you as aforesaid by Sharmila Ji, which you must not take seriously. In addition, if you want, you can contact them by making a phone call directly if you have their contact numbers.

Thank you for the suggestions. I have gone through a couple of technical interviews, and salary negotiations are done. I have sent all the documents/certificates to them. They shared the CTC details with me, and I accepted the offer on the 24th of last month. However, I have not received the official offer letter yet. Without the official offer letter from the employer, I am unsure how to approach my current employer for my release.

Thanks & Regards,

I guess the best then is to call up the company and ask them when they are going to send the offer letter and clearly tell them that you can not resign till they give the offer letter to you
