Actually, professional tax is to be paid half-yearly once as per the slab in the employee's gross salary. However, I have one doubt. For example, if an employee joins on the 15th of October and the monthly gross salary as per the offer letter is 50,000, but since he joined in the middle of the month, the gross salary for the 15 days would be 25,000. When calculating the professional tax, which gross amount should be considered - the offer letter's monthly gross salary or the 15 days' gross salary? Could you please tell me?

Regards,
Anil

As far as I am aware, professional tax is to be paid for the whole month irrespective of the date you join in. PT can’t be paid on pro-rata basis. However, seniors pls confirm the same.
