Hi seniors, I am Dharani. I have completed my MBA this July and am currently assisting my father in his business. In the future, if I wish to work in corporates, is there a chance to work in corporates? Can I add my experience in self-business to my resume as work experience? I specialized in Marketing and Finance during my MBA.

Well, I have just answered a question regarding career objectives, which I would like to share with you here. I believe this can give you an idea of how objectives and goals matter in our professional and career life. For more information, you can visit https://www.citehr.com/437979-am-dil...ml#post1982792.
Career Objectives and Goals
Could you please share the career objectives/goals you have set for yourself and provide details about the type of business your father is in? Additionally, what role do you play in the business, and what is your MBA specialization that you haven't shared with us?
Since you are working under your father (a businessman), you must have gained valuable knowledge and life experience from a business perspective. This experience can be beneficial in many ways. However, if you aim to establish yourself at a corporate level, you need to take the initiative. By making efforts initially, you can learn and progress in your career path.
Kindly respond to the questions above and provide more details in your query. This will enable me and others to offer you a more comprehensive response.

Anyone with any professional degree could get a chance to work in any corporate setting. With an MBA in Finance and Marketing, if you are assisting your father in his business, it is beneficial from an experience point of view. You mentioned you are looking after Administration. Are you involved in Marketing and Finance functions as well? Even limited exposure in these fields will help you gather relevant experience and keep your chances bright to switch over to any corporate environment.
Bio Mass Briquette Manufacturing and Marketing
Bio Mass is a renewable energy source and could be a sought-after one in the future. Policies are framed at the national and every state level for producing and using different forms of renewable energy. India, being an agricultural country, will have a significant contribution in renewable energy. As long as the fodder requirement of cattle is met, Bio Mass will find an organized outlet towards energy generation.
The other relevant points are:
- How is the present market being served?
- What is the current competition in Bio Mass Production & Marketing?
- How easy or difficult is it to enter this industry?
The way you have described it appears to be a small-scale industry. The advantage of working in a small-scale industry is that you are involved in all functions, such as Raw Material Procurement, Manufacturing, Packing, Inward and Outward Logistics, Administration, Marketing, Employees, Customers, Suppliers, Systems, etc. If you work as a full-time employee or partner, you would get to know something of everything.
However, someone starting their career in a corporate setting has to be clear about the function in which they would be working. After the initial training, one has to work in a specific function for several years before switching over to other departments. It is also possible that even after many years, a person may rise well but only within the same function to become a specialist in their domain. Mostly, towards the end of one's career, one gets a chance to become a Generalist. Many retire as functional specialists.
You need to make a choice as to how long you want to work with your father or how soon you want to join a corporate.

Dear Dharani,
Determine Your Career Goals
What is your goal? Please decide for yourself the industry of preference in which you would like to pursue your career. If you prefer to enter the Manufacturing Industry, then you have chosen the correct path. Gain thorough knowledge about your family business, assist your father in all his business matters, learn the business tactics, and strive to enhance the business to a higher level so that you can create more employment opportunities in the society where your industry is established.
Consider Further Education
Furthermore, you can also consider taking some HR-related courses to have complete control over the Accounts, Marketing, and HR departments of your family-run business.
Wishing you all the success.

Further to what other members suggested, there are a few aspects/factors you need to keep in mind.
Qualification and Experience Disparity
Your qualification is MBA (Finance & Marketing), while your overall experience in your father's company would be in Administration. Being an MBA, I am sure you note the disparity between the two from a recruiter's point of view. So, whenever you decide to appear for an interview later with corporates, this would come out glaringly—meaning you will be limiting your choice to either Administration or Finance/Marketing. Again, since you, as of now, don't have any experience in your qualifying specializations, the chances of getting a corporate job would, at best, be as a fresher.
Options and Flexibility
Coming to the options you have, one big advantage you have is that the present company is your father's. So you would, I presume, have broader flexibility in terms of choosing the functions you want to work in. In addition to Admin, suggest handling one of your two qualifying specializations—Marketing or Finance. That would widen your options later.
All the best.

I hope you have read my response to you and have gone through the link I provided because I believe you must read it once.
I second TS and would like to say that you must focus on your career line and function instead of participating in administrative work. You need to show your involvement in Finance & Marketing. Also, I would suggest you please set your definite goals for your professional life first.
Establishing Yourself in the Corporate World
To establish yourself in the corporate world, you must be focused. If you want to pursue a job instead of handling finance or marketing work at your own company or with your father's business, you need to apply for jobs elsewhere and give a good start to your career. TS has clearly defined the advantage that you have, and you must grab it with both hands.
Best of Luck
