Hi,
I'm working as a HR Executive for past 1+ yrs.. I've done my Engineering in E&C and after that did my MBA(HR) thro' DDE. Actually i had a passion to do MBA.. But now whereever i go for interview they are asking me " Why MBA after BE?? - both are different streams ".. i used to answer them saying that "i wanted to enter into management side as i have so much interest and passion towards it and i chose HR since i like interacting with people"...
But i find nobody is satisfied with my answer eventhough it is the truth..
Can citehr friends help me in answering this question in a professional way.. It will be of greater help..

It is good that you had done MBA after BE
So better to apply in some core companies of ur enginnering background
where you can apply ur knowledge also.
And those peoples well understand why MBA after BE , and dont ask such questions

Dear Swathi,
One thing I would like to know, are you looking at your furure in HR or want to settle down as Engineer
Because as per your say you are working as an Executive HR, why don't you try out as an IT Recruiter, which I feel is apt for your academics & moreover you want be a people person.

Even my academic BG is same as u(BE EC ,MBA HR&Systems).Even I faced the same questions.
What I feel is tell what actually happened in ur case.In my case I was not so sure on my goal or target while I was doing BE.Just I did it to become an engineer...even my parents and relatives had influence on that.But b4 finishing the course i started doing reserch on the current industry and career options....and matched with my present skill sets.I found my self in a better way doing managerial kind of job,interacting with people,making decisions,helping and motivating others and able to convince others.....I realy enjoy doing this kind of this.....I have a few examples to justify this...always state things with examples supporting that...Now I am very clear on what I can do and what I have to do...
Technical knowledge will help to do technical interviews,interacting with engineers,understand ther requirements,technical recruitment,performance appraisals in IT COMPANIES .......its always an asset to have technical backgrnd.

1) In India when we are 18yrs, we do not really understand what we really want to be. By Merit we get whatever we deserve or whatever our parents think is the best for us. After we spend 3-4yrs we get to know what would be expected out of us after we complete this professional course. i think u better opt for MNC where you can deal with man power planning so that you can use ur skills in implementing technical support as well as hr management...

BE + MBA is a lethal combination to have for the Corporate World.
I am surprised that people ask you this question and are not satisfied with the answers.
You may tell them:"BE has enhanced my logical and analytical abilities. MBA gives me the whole picture of how an organization works. MBA is a practitioners degree and BE gives me a sound base to adapt, adopt and understand domain knowledge quickly to apply the same for Corporate Growth".

The questions posed at the interview are just to check your attitude and reasoning ability, there is no hard and fast rule that a BE GRADUATE cannot pursue an MBA,
Be it a B.com MBA, or a BE MBA, what counts is your practical learning in the organisation,

My situation was the same as Praveen said.. When i passed out my school like others even me and my parents wanted me to do BE.. we had a paper called 'Entrepreneur Management' during my 1st Year.. Actually i got the inspiration of doing MBA only during that Period.. and moreover i thought BE with MBA will be an added value to my career.. But when i started getting such questions i was taken li'l aback.. But all your replies had made me happy and i've the confidence that i can easily take the question in any interview. :)
