I understand that if an employee is asked to work during their weekly day off, they will be paid double the usual wage. However, what happens if the weekly day off coincides with a government holiday? Will the employee receive triple the wages?
Thank you.

HI If the Govt. Holiday comes on week ends then the same holiday will not be declared on Holiday list. Even if it is listed then he/she will get only double wages.

In such cases, if the holiday falls on the weekends, then it is not considered in the holiday list, as rightly said by Mr. Jeevarathnamji. Instead, another holiday may be proposed to the list.

If a Government holiday falls on a weekly-off and if any employee is required to work on that day, they are either granted compensatory time off on another day or paid double wages. There is no provision for triple wages, and it is unclear how the notion of triple wages would arise.

Compensation for Working on Weekly Offs and Holidays
Whether one works on a weekly off, government holiday, national holiday, or additional hours beyond normal working hours, he/she is eligible to receive only twice his/her wages. This is applicable only up to a certain level/grade of the employees. In some companies, only office boys and lower-level/grade employees are eligible for such payment. Higher-level officers are not eligible for compensatory time off.
