Dear Seniors,

Greetings to all. I am working as an HR executive. I have completed my MBA and I want to further my studies to enhance my knowledge in the HR field. However, I am feeling confused. I need your advice on which course would be suitable to pursue without leaving my current job. I have come across two courses, one being the Diploma in Labour Laws or Industrial Relations and Labour Laws offered by Symbiosis College. Which course would be more appropriate for an HR professional, or do both courses cover the same content? Alternatively, are there any other courses that I could consider?

I kindly request your valuable suggestions on this topic.

Both courses are relevant for someone who is aspiring to be a respected HRM. Moreover, as an IR Officer, a good insight of labor would be important while developing employment contracts, disciplinary committees, conciliation, and dealing with trade unionists.

Best of luck

Hi Shonu Supriya,

You did not mention which company you are currently working with. Is it a manufacturing company? Are you looking to make a career in Industrial Relations (IR)? Because both of these courses are IR-oriented. If you suppose you are in HR and interested in progressing in HR only, then these courses may not be of great help. Though in general, they would certainly add value to your profile. Instead, for HR, I would suggest doing advanced courses in various HR processes like Recruitment, Learning & Development (L&D), Compensation & Benefits, Performance Management Systems (PMS), etc. You may also consider studying Psychology or pursuing an advanced diploma in personal counseling.

Hi Supriya,

I'm in my final year MBA-HR and also pursuing DLL and Labour Welfare from ILS. I am working on my project on contract labour management and find DLL with Labour Welfare very useful. The industrial relations aspect mostly deals with trade unions, industrial disputes, and settlement. They are covered under the Trade Union Act and the Industrial Dispute Act, 1947. So, if you have these in your course along with PF and ESI laws, then it's very beneficial.

Anyways, have a nice career ahead. Keep in touch.

Goodbye.

Hi,

As you are working in a hospital, this can be beneficial if you are handling issues of contract laborers or other employees on a contract basis. Can you specifically tell your job profile and the areas you handle?

For better clarity curriculam of both courses need to be looked into it. If one is getting labour laws and IR in one course, it should be preferred. Regards Rajeev

Dear all,

Thank you all for your suggestions. Alok, my job profile includes recruitments, accreditations related activities, Training and development. My IR-related work is less. However, I want to know in detail about the labor laws as well as statutory compliances. Hence, I have started with a Diploma in Labor Laws.

Hi Supriya,

You've made a good decision. I am also pursuing DLL from ILS and completing my final MBA. Can you please let me know which college you have taken admission to? It seems like we have the same subjects. I am curious to know if your course includes the BOCW act.

Thanks and regards.
