I have 1.4 years of total and relevant experience in HR (IT Recruitment). I have completed my BE in Mechanical Engineering and MBA in HR/IT. I tried for new HR opportunities but didn't get good openings, so I decided to pursue an IT course in JAVA to start my career in IT. Can you please suggest if I should continue looking for HR jobs or pursue an IT course or go for a SAP HR course? Is it the right time to start as a fresher in the IT industry after completing my JAVA course? Please help.

Thanks

I suggest you do an ERP (SAP) course. Java, though useful, will put you in competition with people who have E&C and CS backgrounds. Of course, your talent matters, but you might face a basic disadvantage in English. Consider doing an appropriate course in SAP.

Best wishes

Career Transition Dilemma

Your query indicates some confusion about your career path. You have completed a BE in Mechanical Engineering and later enrolled in an MBA with a focus on HR/IT. Additionally, you invested 1.4 years as an HR IT recruiter, but now you want to switch your work area, which is understandably confusing. As a recruiter, you can understand what is bothering you and why recruiters may not be showing interest in your profile.

Resume Improvement and Career Path

The simple solution is to work on your resume. You can opt for SAP-HR, a technical qualification that will certainly add value to your resume. However, it might be better to shift towards the IT field, which aligns with your baseline. Keep in mind that although you lack experience, transitioning into IT will require time to establish yourself again. Eventually, you will feel satisfied knowing that you have a single career line and the opportunity to grow.

Self-Assessment and Future Steps

Do you believe you can grow and have a successful career as an IT Recruiter? Are you prepared for it, or do you possess the necessary knowledge and skills for this role? These are the questions you need to answer first. If your answer is NO, you should consider transitioning to the IT field as you have decided. Additionally, you must update your knowledge by studying further applications (such as JAVA, which you are already familiar with) as it is crucial since you have been out of touch with them for 1.4 years.

Thank you both for your valuable suggestions.

@vasudev - Can you please elaborate on ERP (SAP) and how it would add to my experience and skills after having worked in HR? How is the scope for the course? Which institutes would you suggest that would be the best and provide authentic certification?

@anilkr - Seeing the offers coming across in HR, even after having a decent amount of experience, I have become skeptical and shaky about my career and future growth. Moving forward, I am interested in incorporating IT knowledge into my skill set. For this purpose, I am considering taking an SAP course. I have come across SAP HR and SAP ABAP courses. Considering the current scenario where HR opportunities do not seem promising for growth, I believe pursuing a course would be beneficial. Can you suggest whether SAP HR or ABAP would be a better choice? What are the future prospects after completing these courses, given that I would be a fresher again? Also, which institutes would be the best options?
