Hi, my query is, can we avail weekly offs other than Sunday? If that is possible, then our working days will differ from person to person. Is this acceptable under the law?

Thank you,

Yes, Amarnath, you can have different weekly offs for all employees because the law provides that each employee should get one day off as a weekly off. However, that suggests that you need to run your organization for all 7 days, for which you would need specific permission under your Shops Act.

An employee should have one day off (W.Off) per week, either on Sunday or another day, depending on the organization's requirements. Since many organizations operate 24/7, 365 days a year, according to the law, if an employee works continuously for 6 days, they should receive 1 day off.

I hope this clarifies your doubt.

Dear Mr. Amarnath/ Ms (i suppose) Chaithanya, As per the act, One is eligible for Weekly Off only if he/she works for at least 4 days in a week. Thanks and regards, Praveen

My confusion is that if we do the same, then working days and weekly offs for workers will differ from person to person as there would be five Sundays or four Saturdays. Is this a discrepancy in the eyes of the law? As the working days for workers in a month will differ from person to person.
