This is Deepti Juneja pursuing an MBA. I want your suggestion about opting for specialization. We have dual specialization, and I am thinking of taking HR and Finance as specializations. Does this combo go well?

HR and finance are very important in any organization. They are parallel departments that should work in tandem for the smooth functioning of any organization. As an HR person, knowing finance is beneficial. You can even explore HR and international business.

It's up to you to decide on the career options. You should correlate your academic qualifications with your profession. List out what your strong points and weak points are.
As an HR person, I can suggest you take up HR as a major, which is currently booming in all corners and will continue to do so. Manpower is crucial, and without it, nothing can be achieved.
Finally, you have the freedom to make decisions about your career. Best of luck.

I'm thinking of taking HR and Finance as specializations. If you are a BCom graduate, then consider taking HR and Finance as specializations; it will help you a lot. Your decision is correct because while pursuing an MBA, you will find the finance part easier. If you find HR challenging, you can devote more time to it. In the end, after completing your MBA, you will be an expert in both HR and finance, which will benefit you greatly.
Just this year, I finished my PGDHRM final semester exams. Today, I don't seem to remember anything about accounts and costing, even though I scored well in those subjects during my BCom. Being immersed in learning HR for two years made me lose touch with accounts. Therefore, if you choose to focus on finance and HR, it will be advantageous for you. You can secure jobs in banks, KPOs handling financial processes, and insurance firms.
Don't worry; make your decision confidently.

I have seen people with a finance background moving to HR and not vice versa :wink: Take the example of Infosys HR Head Mr. Mohan Pai, ex-CFO. Hence, try to discover your areas of interest and develop expertise.
