I have 4 years of experience in the field of HR. However, I wanted to pursue an LLB course as legal knowledge is a great complement to HR. Understanding legal requirements and statutory compliance is a strong combination. Recently, someone suggested that instead of opting for an LLB, which would take 3 years to complete, I should consider a CS course. This course also involves law and could potentially lead to a higher salary.

I am seeking advice from senior professionals in the field. Would pursuing a CS course be beneficial for a career in HR?

Thank you.

If you wish to pursue a career as a Company Secretary after HR, you are the leader in labor relations, statutory compliance, company mergers, performance appraisals, and legal aspects related to the company. Someone is suggesting going for LLB instead of opting for CS - let me tell you, my friends, LLB and CS are like butter and bread - the CS course is an added advantage after you have completed your LLB.

If you would like to experience the real HR world by working in an industry or a factory dealing with labor relations and related matters, consider pursuing CS. It is a correspondence course that will elevate you to higher standards. Additionally, you can pursue LLB simultaneously. Remember, LLB is just a degree, while CS is a professional course.

However, you will still study financial subjects such as tax and cost accounting. Given the current scenario and rapid changes in HR practices, it is beneficial to have additional skills. Understanding tax and cost accounting can be advantageous for payroll personnel and gaining insight into headcount costs, which are also part of HR roles and responsibilities.

Make a decision based on what you want to achieve. In my opinion, Company Secretary is the best course after an MBA, suitable for Finance or HR. This course is flexible and dynamic, allowing students to align with their area of study and excel.

All the best!
