First, understand the organization structure (job and responsibility of each employee/department) of your organization, company profile, HR policies, payroll structure, statutory compliances, etc. Then start working on it.

Hi Special Girl, I can imagine how you are! First of all, keep motivating yourself. One thing we have to notice is that no one will guide us in the corporate sector. We have to take the initiative. You mentioned you are the only person in your HR Department.

As our friends said, first, go through the organization structure, HR policies, and functions, and know to whom you are reporting. Go through the Revision History that your previous employee had done so that you can understand. Take an empty template of any document and compare it with the existing document of the same so that you can learn how to update or how to start.

First of all, please go through the induction PPT of your organization. It helps you understand the company standards. Then, review the following:

- Company website
- HR policy
- Employee Database
- Leave records
- HR metrics
- CM plan

Recruitment Involvement

If you are involved in recruitment, make sure to check the following:

- Sources for Recruitment
- Manpower requisition forms
- Interview panel
- Joining formalities
- Exit formalities

I am facing the same problem in this organization. I am the only HR and the first HR in this organization. Please help. There are no policies established here. The most significant issue is that it is a HUF (Family Business), leading to the absence of specific HR rules being followed. To start with, understand the company's dealings. Go through the company link properly and learn about the organization.

Make a Policy Manual

Make a policy manual containing the whole structure of the company. For policy-making, talk to your management and approve each clause, such as Position Category, Office Time, Salary Accounts, Lunch Break, Tea Break, National Holidays, Leave Policy, Termination Policy, Office Infrastructure Policy, Medical, and other things you would like to add.

It is not easy to document it in a week's time. For all the above functions, you need to sit with your management and decide.

Also, with recruitment, you can start. If you are in a small organization, please gather all the requirements as per the recruitment needs and do the needful.
