Hi, I am working in a software organization. In our company, leave policies are defined with Saturday and Sunday as weekly offs each week. If employees take leave without pay on Monday and then join on the next working day, Tuesday, they are considered to have taken 3 days off because Saturday and Sunday are considered as preceding days to Monday.
Similarly, if an employee takes leave without pay on Friday and joins back on the next working day, Monday, they are also considered to have taken 3 days off. However, I have not received any clarification on this issue because weekly offs are only considered when an employee takes leave on Friday and Monday, and in this scenario, Saturday and Sunday fall between the leave days, which should be taken into account.
What if an employee takes leave only on Friday with no holiday preceding Friday and only one day, Monday, with no holiday following it? Please advise if the rule provided is valid or not.
Thanks & Regards, Varsha

Hi,
It mostly depends on company policy. Each company has different policies. Most software companies don't consider four days of leave, i.e., Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. They consider a two-day leave (Friday and Monday) and calculate attendance on an hourly basis, i.e., 45 hours of work in a week.

Clarification on Leave Policy with Prefix and Suffix
Please clarify the following scenario: An employee takes leave on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, which are the weekend off days. Monday is a festival holiday, and the employee rejoins on Thursday. Additionally, the employee was on leave on Tuesday and Wednesday. How many days should be counted as leaves if the organization follows a prefix and suffix leave policy?
Thank you,
