I want to manage the canteen and security in a manufacturing concern. Please guide me as I have no idea about the do's and don'ts of canteen and security. Your help in this case will be highly appreciated. What does an HR person need to do regarding canteen and security?

As your company falls under the Factories Act, 1948, please refer to the Factories Act and act accordingly.
Canteen Requirements
You are required to provide:
• Canteen Accommodation
• Good Potable Water
• Free Electricity
• You, along with the Management, should decide the rates of the food materials to be sold. This should be duly signed by you (Management) and kept in the Canteen agreement file. The same should also be displayed in the Canteen.
• Food Handlers' Medical Exam to be carried out periodically.
• Sanitation to be maintained properly.
• Instruct to maintain the Food Inspection/tasting Register, and it should be signed on a daily basis after tasting the food by any one member daily.
• Clean and Tidy Dining Hall with proper lighting facility to be provided.
• Please comply with all the statutory requirements that need to be maintained.
Security Requirements
For security, the agency should be registered with the Home Ministry (Police Commissionerate for running the Security Agency). Please provide clear guidelines regarding the dos and don'ts to the security guards. Instruct the security agency regarding the educational and physical qualifications of the security guards required. Select the posts and areas to be guarded and communicate your requirements of Guards to your management. After proper approval, instruct the number of security personnel required by the agency. Set the salary and ensure deductions for PF, ESI, and ensure the payment to the concerned authority regularly. Ensure the regular and timely payment to the Security Personnel deployed at your premises.
