My regards to everyone. CiteHR has always helped the seekers with valuable advice and suggestions. I need your help now. I was working in an engineering college for the last one year and had to leave the college in the middle of the session for some personal reasons. Though I did not give any prior notice, I completed the entire portion and have replaced myself with another candidate. I did all that I could so that my students and management do not suffer. The problem is the management is not returning my original certificates. I have even paid them one month of salary, but yet they are not returning my certificates. What should I do? Please help. I just can't let my certificates go like this. I have not signed any bond nor did I get any appointment letter. Please, friends and seniors, advise me on what to do.

Feel sorry for you. You must have returned the documents before paying the dues. This is where people do not realize that their properties are with the organizations to be retrieved.

You can go and sit directly in front of the Vice-Chancellor and ask for the certificate. If the management wants you to rejoin, you can put forth an agreement to have the original certificate returned and then join with a proper appointment letter. After joining, if you decide to leave the organization without notice after a month, even if this fails, you can file a case against the college management. Do you have a photocopy of the certificate? If not, you can file a First Information Report (FIR) stating that the certificate is lost. Additionally, place an advertisement in newspapers declaring the loss of your certificate, including your certificate number. Keep these FIRs and go back to the university to apply for a duplicate. Obtain the duplicate copy and forget about the old one.

This is a learning experience for you. Do not repeat this in the future.

Further to Manthra's post, do keep everything in writing. Request the certificates in writing, take acknowledgment, and wait for a reply. Follow up 4-5 times, and you may take the route that Manthra has suggested.

You will not be able to have back the deposit slip. Nevertheless, you can go to the site where all the payments done can be viewed. If your payment is reflecting, that means the payment has been updated in their records. You can just keep a screenshot and print the same for your records.
