Hello Friends,
I am working in a manufacturing company where attendance is 100% linked with the salary/wages. Since we are now starting an IT company, I would like to know whether attendance is generally linked to salaries in IT companies or not. I heard that in IT companies, salaries are released on the 25th of every month or at the latest on the 30th, and there is no linkage with attendance. Is that possible?

Dear Kalpana,
Attendance is a crucial factor in salary calculation within the IT sector. However, its significance varies based on the business model and the nature of IT operations. For instance, research-oriented companies like Google and Adobe often offer flexible working hours as a perk to their employees. Conversely, maintenance-focused companies may necessitate 24/7 availability from their staff, leading to provisions like remote work options.
In development-centric firms, employees are typically required to log in and out at specific times, yet the actual productivity is more closely tied to the amount of work completed rather than hours spent. Project deadlines often dictate the workload, with employees sometimes working extended hours to meet targets.
It is advisable to tailor attendance policies to align with the specific needs of the business while considering the organizational context. Should you require further information, please feel free to reach out.

Thank you, (Cite Contribution), for a succinct reply. Yes, we do understand the typical requirements and have offered flexible timings along with a work-from-home policy. Being a startup company, unfortunately, we still do not have a LAN-based/automatic system for monitoring/mining log-in/log-out data of every individual; hence, we have introduced a thumb impression-based attendance system, to which there is an obvious resistance - they had no controls for the past six months!
I guess we are on the right path. Still, if I need something, I will definitely contact you. Thanks so much for the offer.

Dear Kalpana,
I can understand the infrastructural limitations during the initial phase. I am sure you will branch out to VPN and other facilities. Here's my suggestion, it may sound very basic, but it is failsafe. Do get a monthly absenteeism/leave sheet filled by each manager for their respective teams. This would help you to tally the shift allowances or variables form every month. This is purely administrative. Yet, it will help you to resolve any concern towards non-payment of such benefits to the employees. Hope this helps.
