Hello, everyone! I need your suggestions. I had joined this company 2 months back as an Asst. Manager - HR & Recruitment. Now I want to resign from this company because the task (Placements) that was assigned to me is not feasible. I am unable to do it because the company does not want to spend even a single penny on job portals but wants me to run the placements department and earn revenues.

Now, I am thinking of resigning because I can't see any prospects here, and I don't want the blame on me. Please suggest something as to what I should do.

I would be grateful.

If your company is not ready to hire a database, then suggest they go for consultancy services. That's a better option. Don't quit until you have something in your hand. Meanwhile, look for opportunities outside.

Pooja, I would suggest you remain in business and wait for the right time. What I think is feasible in your case is to seek the present employees for references or look for a cheaper way to advertise your requirements.

I am totally agree with Krishna. Pooja don’t leave the job untill u have any other in your hands. Just go for the references from the current emplyees or your contacts.

Yeah, I am getting an opportunity, though it's not a very good one - it's a consultancy position, and I never wanted to work in a consultancy. I have always aimed to work in a generalist role. Now, I am confused about whether I should leave my current job and go for another one.

Dear Pooja,

I suggest you remain in the job. Take it as a challenge and find an alternate way to do the work. As you are an assistant manager in HR, it becomes a question of your work experience if you do not know how to source candidates. Paid job portals are not the solution. Getting quality and genuine candidates is important. This is where the expertise and experience of a recruiter comes in. Otherwise, there is no difference between HR and a telemarketer.

The first thing you should ask is why consultancies would work for you for free. How will you get resumes when your organization does not want to use paid services?

In the current situation, I am sure you do not have your candidate database. By a database, I mean candidates with whom you have personally communicated and have their details in an Excel sheet.

There are a number of new job portal sites launching every month in India. Register yourself on those job portal sites where free resume access is available. Post job openings there. Prepare a database of candidates and segregate them by industry, experience, and location. Use your network and try to exchange databases with other HR recruiters. Some candidates can even be found on sites like CiteHR, LinkedIn, Facebook, Orkut, Yahoo Groups, and free online advertisement sites.

Check with those who want corporates to advertise on their websites. Exchange web links with them and post free job ads.

Imagine yourself as a business owner where you need maximum productivity with minimum resources. You will understand why a paid job portal is not the ultimate solution in recruitment. Earning revenue is not easy when you have nothing to offer to recruiters and consultancies. Come up with a business model to show your management how they can earn without investing. This is very much possible.

If we were not both in the consultancy business, I would have given you ideas on how to increase revenue. But still, I suggest you stay in the same job unless you get a better opportunity and utilize the situation to learn and develop yourself rather than getting frustrated.

Hi,

Hang on, Pooja, don't quit unless you have something good in hand. You can try networking sites such as LinkedIn. They have dedicated groups where you can post your openings. Also, you can try networking with the kind of people you need. Facebook is another option. If you have your company website, then mention your openings there. Try attending campus drives if you need freshers too. It will help in building your brand image. People have friends and relatives, and they can refer them to you.

Please do not quit any job immediately after joining, at least wait for more than 6 months or 1 year if you can. Job hopping so early will definitely give a negative reflection on your resume. Maybe your employers are testing your capability, dedication, your extreme effort, and your level of handling pressure. It's all mindset – how many jobs will you quit? If the next employer is worse than this, then what?

Be calm, try to find solutions, take this as an opportunity to learn and be part of the experience. Try to find a job with a more responsible job profile and, of course, a good company; then resign from the present job by serving the notice period. Once you have the experience, you will get good opportunities in the future.

In my experience, anyone with minimal browsing skills can source candidates from paid job portals like Naukri or Monster. The real challenge in recruiting lies in generating leads seemingly out of thin air. There are countless ways to achieve this.

Firstly, stop dwelling on the organization's perceived inability to provide resources. They have already provided you with the best resource available – yourself. While it might seem easier to seek opportunities elsewhere with better facilities, the concept of "better" is subjective.

Identify your core strengths, such as communication, browsing, or data analysis, and determine the areas where you can apply these skills effectively. If you share the job description, I can assist you in locating potential resources.

With just three days of focused effort, you can find the best candidates for your needs. Many recruiters have access to job portals but struggle to fill positions, often selling their logins at reduced rates. Whether data is consolidated in one source or scattered across multiple platforms, what truly matters is the individual's skill and perseverance in conducting searches.
