Alright, first and foremost, is OB part of HRM or is it a discipline of its own? I personally feel that OB is significantly different from HRM although there are similar overlaps. While HRM focuses on more of the practical aspects of personnel management, OB emphasizes more on the individual characteristics in an organization. What do you guys think?
Apart from that, is there any specific designation or member association for OB? I know there are lots for HRM, but I was wondering if there are any for OB....

OB is part of HRM. Strategic HRM and HR strategies/policies are affected by OB. OB includes the following majors:
- People characteristics
- Human relations
- Interpersonal relations
- Motivation
- Organizational culture
OB, in turn, influences:
- Organization design/development/job roles
- Organization resourcing/selection/recruitment, etc.
- Performance management
- HR development (training/development/career management)

IT s definately the part of HRM. HRM is dealing and managing human resources and thus when u are dealing with human resources, that comes with human behaviour in broad sense.

Hello,
I agree that OB is a part of HRM, but Organisational Behavior has lots of theories in itself. Are these theories applied in the organization, and if so, when? Which theory of motivation do you think is prevalent in organizations today?
When looking at the type (A or B) of a person, what do we come to know? How can we utilize the theory to maintain a balance between a person's job responsibilities and characteristics?

Hi all,
I completely agree with Neha. Although you have studied OB as a part of HRM, I strongly feel it has more to do with behavioral aspects and psyche of the workforce rather than simple management. OB is highly influenced by Industrial and Organizational Psychology, which is a major contributor to this field and HR as well.

OB is definitely a part of HR. When we talk about HR, it stands for Human Resources, so everything related to them— their feelings, emotions, personality, behavior, etc.—OB teaches us the same. It helps us understand each aspect of the individual and enables us to perform better in our roles as HR professionals because OB is involved in every HR activity, including recruitment, selection, training, performance appraisal, etc.
OB is the heart of HR; it provides the foundation from which HR work begins. Without it, it would be very challenging to address various HR issues.
