It is a really wonderful way of explaining Change Management and OC. Examples are nice to understand, but practicing it is a top management decision. How does an employee contribute, understand, and bring directed improvements?

Dear Raj,

I liked the theory, especially the last few lines. A company is always known by the people it keeps. There are certain employees at crucial points in the organization who have more power to influence, and it is this influence that can make or break a change management process.

Most change management initiatives fail because many companies always associate change management with innovation and the creation of deviations in products or services. However, they seldom understand that change management also means adaptability.

The frog story is not only relevant for companies but also true for global warming issues.

The change in 3 days is very important to be noted. If we change slowly but steadily and improvise, we could be in tune with the fast-moving time. Even a trendsetter is simply someone who moves ahead of the occurring change. There are also things we shouldn't change, like belief in God and integrity.

Dear Prof. Raj,

Your style of elucidating a complex concept is indeed commendable. The Bhagavad Gita has the same message to convey: "Change is the law of the Universe" and the only permanent thing in Nature. What is more important is the ability to change along with the changes that take place, and that too for the better. The dinosaur, I believe, became extinct only because it failed to adapt itself to the environmental changes.

I unfortunately read the article days later today. This is undoubtedly an enormous essay I have read. Being in the management of a reputable company, I definitely feel that this article represents the situation well. Each giant company waits until its last breath before it goes for a change.

Dear Sudha,

What you are talking about is market risk, and there is no control over the market. The story being conveyed here is that your product style and services should change, and you should also understand your immediate surroundings.

For example, there is a famous case of Iridium mobile. They produced satellite mobiles, but it never took off as desired because there was no proper research done, and no futuristic planning was involved. As a result, the phone never became popular and was phased out within three years with the introduction of cellular phones.

Business risks are different from risks arising due to faulty calculative methods in risk analysis.

Prof. Raj,

Though the frog story is an old wine in a new bottle, it is packaged well, and my congrats. But in my view, it is too simplistic to draw an analogy from this to organizational change since the changes happening in a globalized market are so rapid (unlike gradually heated water) that organizations need to revisit their strategies quite often than in the past to stay afloat. If they are not sensitive and responsive to the happenings, the shake-off is quickly imminent. Don't you think so?

Thank you. Actually, this is the right way of teaching students about the subject, making them learn through practical experience. It can be done through classroom case studies and drama, where they will be required to play the roles of actual workplace environments. This gives them the chance to think as if they are actually in that situation.
