Handling A Reception In The Absence Of Receptionist Is It HR Resposbility / Job

Hi, I'm Anshu. I need suggestions. I am working as an HR Executive in a private company for the last 1.5 years, and I need your help. Is handling reception in the absence of a receptionist an HR responsibility? My senior told me that in the absence of a receptionist, I have to handle all the reception responsibilities, and it's the HR responsibility according to my senior. However, as per my knowledge, handling reception is not an HR job. I don't know what to do. Please help me out with this.

The receptionist duties do not fall under HR activities. However, as part of HR & Admin, you are responsible for the smooth running of the administration.

Since you have been with the company for the past 1.5 years, this is the right time to continue learning and growing without feeling that you are going to degrade.

To become a manager, you should always possess a diverse range of skills in the profession; this will accelerate your career growth.

Are you working for fun and spending your spare time, or for roti, kapda, makan? Does looking after reception keep you busy for the whole day, and is your own table pending? If you are acting as a stepney tyre once in a while, enjoy it. In any organization, any job is your job. Don't talk of rules and regulations if you want to keep your job. If the superiors feel that you are not cooperating when they have a problem, they will not hesitate to thank you at their will. There are many people waiting in a queue in search of a job and are ready to do any work. So cool, relax. If they make you do it 24x365, then meet your boss and tell him your feelings. They will also understand.
