Seeking Advice After Job Transition

Please help me. I am a BE student. Due to some reasons, I was unemployed for 2 years. After that period, I secured a job in a bank. For the past 2 years, I have been working as a PO in State Bank. Recently, I received an email from a friend who is a Managing Director of a particular company. He offered me a software job with a salary of 70,000 per month. He claimed to be the owner and assured me that he would take care of me, providing complete training. Trusting him, I resigned from my bank job and joined his company. However, after 2 months, they sold their firm to another company.

Now, the people in the company are assigning heavy work to me without providing any training and blaming me for not performing well, mentioning the possibility of removing me at any time. I am trying my best to complete the tasks given to me.

I am writing this with tears in my eyes.

I trusted my friend and left my government job to join his company, but after selling his company, he abandoned me. While his position remains the same, the other employees in this company are experienced professionals, whereas I am just a fresher. It has only been 2 months since I joined here, so I am not able to work like them yet. I am making every effort, but they are talking about terminating my employment.

What should I do now?

Getting selected as a Probationary Officer in SBI is not easy. I don't know what the market situation is today; however, at one time, it was considered the toughest exam, next only to civil services.

You have successfully completed your Bank PO. This demonstrates that you have talent.

Now, at this stage, there is no going back for you. The way is only forward. Come on, Mulla, work hard, and prove who you are. Proving yourself would mean learning something new related to your job, doing something differently, and working smartly. Whether you are trained or not does not matter. Have you seen the famous Hindi film "Lagaan"? The renowned actor Aamir Khan portrayed the character of "Bhuvan." Who taught Bhuvan to play cricket? But then he went ahead on his own. So, do not give up because of your mistakes.

You may be regretting putting yourself in this situation. You might be thinking, "Why did I leave the cushy job as a PO?" However, make it a point that these thoughts have no relevance today.

Everybody goes through a rough patch. I cannot even say that you are going through a rough patch because you are still employed. However, your job mistakes may have put you in this situation. Therefore, focus on your job. This concentration will come only if you devote your body and soul. Devote yourself to the work, Mulla, and see the change. People have created miracles when they devoted themselves to their work, and you can do it too.

Don't get upset. Instead of focusing your attention on rumors, concentrate on your work. You are grown up now, so be brave and put in extra effort to learn things. If you are not able to understand anything, ask your seniors; they will definitely help you out. Alternatively, post your queries on this site, and everyone here will guide you.

As per your post, you are doing the same work as you used to do in the previous company, so no need to worry more about your work. Just concentrate on work; you can learn a lot.

Second, even in the worst condition, if you will be out of this company, be patient. This is not the end of life. There are so many options that will come into your life.

If you are feeling really sad in your current job, you must contact the HR Department of your previous employer, i.e., SBI, and share your story. There may be hope to rehire you as there is a huge requirement for staff in public sector banks, and they need hard-working people like you. So, don't hesitate to meet the people at SBI.

Don't lose your hope. God has better plans for you. Think positive.

Try to focus on your job; don't lose heart. Simultaneously, prepare for a PO position, as there are several openings still available in the public sector.

Why are you getting so depressed over such a small thing? If you are thinking about quitting, then it means that you don't have trust in your talent. Come on, you have to prove yourself. If you have cracked the PO exam, then I think this is a very small thing for you. So, don't get upset. I think Mr. Praveen has sent you the right email. Just have a look at it; you will definitely get motivated. Also, think about the problems of people living in slum areas. Then, you will come to realize that you have received a lot from God.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. I am trying hard to complete the task. I am working diligently, but my senior colleagues always give a negative impression of me and my work to my superiors. That's the main problem; I think they don't like to work with me. Whenever I ask a question, they always shout at me and don't help me.

The senior members have already shown you the path. Now it's your turn to walk on it. I am not an experienced professional, but I am willing to contribute here as I am going through a rough patch myself and have decided to fight against it. Here, I would like to add two things that are required now.

1. Focus on your current job and enhance your skills by undertaking courses. You can opt for online courses that do not demand much time and are available free of cost. This will surely boost your confidence.

2. If you feel like returning to a secure career, prepare for banking exams, as you will get the additional benefit of being a former bank officer. Consider IPBS or other banking exams. The last date is January 20, 2012.

Last but not least, the most important part is your inner strength. Keep yourself motivated, as there are ways to overcome these problems. Take care.

Accept Your Mistake

1) First, accept your MISTAKE that you left your GOVERNMENT JOB just for the sake of earning A LITTLE MORE MONEY. This shows that you evaluate your future based on the package offered to you, which cannot be a PERMANENT JOB as there is NO JOB SECURITY.

Change Your Mindset

2) Second, whatever you think, you will become. Hence, stop considering yourself as WEAK and ELIMINATE this word from your BRAIN.

Focus on Your Output

3) Do not give importance to any kind of THREATS you receive from your NEW MANAGEMENT except FOCUSING ON YOUR OUTPUT. "NEVER GIVE UP, WHATSOEVER MAY HAPPEN."

Take Risks

4) Develop a habit of TAKING RISKS and continue further to demonstrate your CAPABILITIES. You can measure your TALENT by studying your CAPABILITY Vs. CHALLENGES. You have to overcome hurdles without falling prey to others' words.

Sell Your Talent

5) Learn how to sell your TALENT. You are a HUMAN CAPITAL - the BIGGEST ASSET of your ORGANIZATION. You are INEXPENSIVE compared to MONEY available in this world, and MONEY can't BUY HUMAN CAPITAL nor give BIRTH to them.

Unleash Your Hidden Talent

6) I believe you are doing something better than what you were doing earlier as a PO. Whatever happens, it happens for good. It's time to UNLEASH YOUR HIDDEN TALENT and proceed further.
