Can Employees Share the Cost of Workmen's Compensation Premiums? Seeking Clarity

Hi Forum, I am Deepa working for an HR company in Bangalore. I have a doubt regarding Workmen's Compensation. Is it only the employer that has to contribute towards the premium for workmen's compensation, or can the employee also contribute partially?

For example, if the premium for workmen's compensation is Rs. 120, and the employer is willing to pay only Rs. 90, can the employee contribute the balance amount of Rs. 30 (similar to PF, ESI)?

Please help me with this as I need to provide an answer to the employee.

This is to inform you that under The Employees' Compensation Act, 1923, an employee who is eligible to receive compensation from the employer under this Act is not required to contribute anything. If you are taking any policy from any insurance company, then in that case, you are liable to pay the whole premium/contribution on your own. In my opinion, there is no compulsion to have this policy under this Act. If you do not want to have a Workers' Compensation policy, then you are required to provide compensation to the employee under this Act.
