Delhi NCR Holiday Announcement: How Does the Commonwealth Games Affect Your Business?

The Delhi Government has issued a notification stating that October 14th has been declared a holiday in the NCR region due to the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games for shops and establishments. Please find the attached notification.

It is applicable to NCT Delhi. The notification is meant for all the private entities which come under the Shops & Establishment Act.

I own a pharmacy in Delhi. Is there a provision for allowing shops to open on such a day in the act? What is the formula to calculate compensation for employees on such a day?

Opening Shops on Holidays

The commercial establishment can open the shops by paying double the wages, getting the consent of the employees in writing, and informing the Labor Inspector.

Does anyone have the Delhi Shops and Establishment Act with amendments? If so, please upload and share. I would also like to know if the Act is currently active, as someone has informed me that it is in abeyance.

This notification is not applicable to Gurgaon. It is only applicable to NCT Delhi.

Do you have any information on the notification issued for a similar holiday on 14th October for the Delhi NCR region too?

Kindly note that the notification regarding the holiday on 14th October pertains only to GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS AND PSUs. We should not confuse people by associating the same with Private Sectors, Establishments, or Companies.
