Can anybody tell me, does a company have the right to close the bank account of a former employee? In my case, the bank is not ready to close the account of an ex-staff member based on the letter sent by the organization.

Dear,

In my opinion, the authority to close down the bank account rests with the person who opened it. A simple application is sufficient for the account holder to close down the account.

Dear Neerav, you have to inform the bank about the details of the retrenched, terminated, or resigned employees from your company. The decision to close the account will be up to the employee; whether they require that account or not.

If it is a zero-balance salaried account, the banks themselves will take appropriate action. The bank will initiate a letter regarding the non-crediting of the salary for the past 3 months. Your account will be converted from a zero-balance account to a minimum Quarterly Average Balance maintaining account. Those not interested in maintaining such an account can come and close their account on a specific date mentioned by the bank.
