Understanding Overtime, Loss of Pay, and Weekend Pay: How Do You Handle These HR Challenges?

Prasantpadhi
Dear Friends, please answer these queries:

1. Normal shift is 8.5 hours, whereas others are 8 hours, and weekly, they are interchanged. What will be the standard rule for calculating the overtime (OT)?

2. For loss of pay (LOP) for salaried employees, what is the calculation?

3. Is a daily wage employee entitled to weekend pay?

Dear Prasant,

The State Shops & Establishment Act, The Minimum Wages Act of 1948, The Factories Act, etc., have provisions on duty hours, spread over timings, weekly off days, and OT payment calculations. Therefore, you are to examine which Act(s) are applicable to your establishment/unit. Afterward, go through the provisions in that particular Act for your query.
