New HR Manager at a Startup: Should I Pursue an HR Certification Course?

deep10
Hi All,

I am new in this firm. Currently, I am working for a small company as an HR Manager. Since my company is very small and a startup, we have not created any policies yet. I want to make our company more organized. Can anybody give me some ideas?

As I don't know much about the HR field, could anyone help me decide if I should pursue an HR certification course?

Deepika

Hi Deepika,

Let me clarify a few things so that I could help you in a better way. Are you an MBA? What are the policies you have as of now for the HR department? Please let me know.

Hi Charm,

Thank you for getting back to me. I have completed my MCA, but I haven't done any certifications yet. Currently, there hasn't been anything created. I need to make a payslip, but I don't know how to prepare one. Please help me with this.

Hi Deepika,

I hope you have decided on your career as HR. There's nothing to worry about; consider joining an MBA program through distance learning or, if possible, pursue it part-time. I have attached a Word document that will give you an idea of how to set up an HR department. If you have more queries, feel free to post them. When others can do it, why not you? Keep rocking!

No necessity for certifications, but you can try getting certified for career enhancement.

As far as setting up an HR department with policies/guidelines is concerned, you can find a lot of material on citehr itself. A few other things you need to keep in mind are:

Under situations where the concepts are new to the users, it will be easy to prepare the guidelines, but implementation will be challenging. Don't take it as a failure. Success is continuous when you try to implement policies in HR and ensure that people follow certain decorum. Start with a never give-up and a positive attitude. After all, it's up to you to decide what should happen to you or what should not happen to you.

Take care!

Deepika, you can join a course in core HR. There are some good institutes in Pune and Mumbai offering a 2-month course. The fees could range from 20k to 30k. Pursuing an MBA through distance learning won't be as beneficial, as it mainly provides a degree. Some individuals with an MCA background have transitioned to HR due to the recession and have opted for these classes. The institutes not only provide certification but also offer an experience letter and placement assistance.

Hope you find this information helpful.

Dear Deepika,

It would be better for you to pursue a diploma in Administration and Labour Law from Annamalai University (Distance Learning). The course fee is 2500, and this is a one-year certification program. You will receive all study materials free of cost.

Working as an HR Manager in a small company has its challenges. I understand that smaller companies may struggle to afford a qualified HR manager, unlike in fields like accounting where hiring a Chartered Accountant is essential even for the smallest companies.

It is intriguing how Indian companies operate, prompting me to believe that it is time for the Government of India to establish an act specifically addressing HRM and the qualifications required for HR practitioners.

As a newcomer in this firm, I am eager to streamline HR processes and policies. Since the company is a startup and lacks established policies, I seek advice on how to create a more organized environment. I am considering pursuing an HR certification course to enhance my knowledge in the field.

Hi Jasajaleel,

The HR course is not possible through distance learning, and you're from Dubai, so I don't know whether there are any institutes that teach core HR. You can visit www.thehrinnovation.com; there you will get the course details. However, it's in India (Pune). Alternatively, you can search on Google for good institutes around Dubai or India.

Thank you!

Hi, I am Parul Choudhary, working as a Senior Executive HR (Generalist profile) in a construction company. I am looking for further certification. Can anybody guide me on which course I should go for? 🤔

I agree with you, Rajkumar. There are many people who join HR even if they don't know much about it. When taking any job, they should consider whether it matches their qualifications or not. People who have completed their post-graduation in HR often struggle to find jobs in HR because some individuals are willing to work for lower salaries without the necessary qualifications. Everyone, please choose the right career.

Hi Raveesh,

Thanks for your valuable information. However, currently, I am living in Bangalore. Do you have any idea about any institute located in Bangalore?
