Can anyone tell how long it will take to do the competency mapping (starting from the job description) for about 250 employees? How many months will it take?

Dear Janani, I would suggest - please do a good search on what competency mapping means and try to understand the concept. Your question on how long it will take to implement completely depends on the nature of the industry, the limitations in gathering information, the initiatives from others to cooperate with you, the chances of the implementation being successful in the very beginning, and above all - your involvement.

Among these 250 employees - how many levels and grades are there? This information is not only for our knowledge but also for your understanding.

I am pursuing my PhD in HR on competency mapping. Kindly help me gather all the information you can. Additionally, please assist me in deciding what should be the exact topic and scope of study, considering that I am a full-time employee and will be relying on secondary data.

Please see my post on Research Methodology. I am afraid that doing a Ph.D. by secondary research only is not easy. If you can conduct a meta-analysis of all previous research on this topic, you may get away with it. Have you got an academic guide at your university? If not, that's the first step: find one and consult with him/her.
