Dear Friends,
Kindly suggest, is it mandatory to keep the muster in office by Shop Act? As we are a growing company we have 5-6 people joining us a month and now we are 100+ so marinating the muster is little tedious and even employees are not very happy to sign IN & Out every time.
We currently installed the access control system which gives all sort of reports which are sufficient for HR and Payroll.
My question is, can we remove the muster from reception completely and relay on access control system? Is it mandatory from Shop Act that we should have muster kept for signing?
Kindly help...
Thanks

It is compulsory under any Act to have muster roll. And how can the employees feel tedious and unhappy to sign the muster roll when they themselves feel very happy to sign salary register ??? Make it compulsory right from the beginning , otherwise you will lose control over it. You can introduce things only in the beginning stage, latter on it will become impossible to enforce things. Therefore, advise the employees to follow the rules of the company without any laxity.

Dear Friend,
There are companies having more than thousands employees, even they are maintaining the registers. There are always some obligations which we have to fulfill whether willingly or unwillingly.
Moreover there is one more option if you are able to provide system generated attendance verified by the authorized signatory whenever asked then you can be exempted from this obligation. But for that you have to get exemption from the governing body (say labour office of that area) to use such adjustments. there are also some places where such exemptions are not required, so you have to check whether the exemption is required or not in your area.
