Hello All,
I am working in Govt University(MP State). Regular Staff around 80 and we have engaged 15 daily wages basis employees. We are paying the salary regular to them. My question is whether we are liable to deduct ESI & PF from their salary? and further shall we contribute our share in PF & ESI?? we are university, so Shop and Establishment act will work or not. Please guide me. Thanx in advance.


A University set up and aided the Government will not come under the purview of any labour enactment. Moreover, the University is paying salary to the casual workers employed. A University like any other government department is not an industry to have a PF and ESI registration. Therefore, your casual workers cannot participate in the EPF and ESI schemes.
