Generally, all the commercial banks in the public sector are totally exempted from the State Shops and Establishments Act as they are directly under the control of the Reserve Bank of India. All other banks in the private sector are covered by the S&E Acts in the states. However, they can seek exemption from certain provisions like maintenance of registers, etc. Similarly, there are certain exemptions in respect of cooperative banks and societies.
