Dear <smadanhr@gmail.com>,

Productivity of people cannot be improved unless you identify measures of performance for the organisation. Thereafter, identify the measures associated with the respective department. The department's productivity further cascades down to the individual level but may not be up to the last level.

If you wish to improve people's productivity, then identify their unproductive activities. Identify the delays and bottlenecks in the operations. Remove the bottlenecks.

Though you have raised the query pm productivity improvement of people, you have not mentioned the business activity of your company. In fact, most of your posts raised in the past are related to service functions of HR which was one-time personnel management.

If you are from a manufacturing organisation, then you need to how the material moves upstream and downstream. The ability to reduce costs associated with the movement of the materials will show how far they are productive.

Your question was primarily on increasing people's productivity without training. In that case, a simple reply is a self-learning. However, self-learning requires a lot of willpower. Secondly, what one learns is also important. Otherwise, there could be a mismatch between what your employees learn on their own and the organisation's requirements. Therefore, you need someone to guide them. Therefore, you need a mentor or consultant. But this will come with a price which you do not wish to pay!

Thanks,

Productivity is a complex factor. It is influenced by various elements. Training is, of course, an important factor influencing productivity. But enthusiasm to do the work is also an important factor in deciding productivity. An employee can be enthusiastic when he is put in the work in which he is best suited. For that identify the role which suites him.

Another important factor which influences productivity is recognition. If an employee is given due recognition, his productivity will increase. Eventually recognition should have a monetary valuation resulting in salary increment etc.

Getting higher remuneration again may not increase productivity but an assurance of job security shall certainly make a difference.
