Our is a power plant and working in 3 shifts (for operation staff).
We have few (5 ) women graduate trainee employees (not part of any union) and they wish to work the shift. They are requesting for evening shift (4 PM to 12 Midnight and 12 Midnight to 8 AM). We do not have any transportation facility and these women employees are commuting to the plant in their own two-wheeler.

Can we allow them to work the evening and night shifts?
If yes what are the precautions we should take?
Kindly suggest

Dear Salil Menon,

Where the power plant is located? If it is in Gurugram, then please refer to provisions regarding the transportation of women mentioned in the Factories Act of Harayana.

However, roughly speaking, if the woman is required to work 2200 hours or beyond, then the company is required to arrange the transport facility for women. However, in the recent past, a lot of amendments have taken place. Hence, the rules differ from one state to another.

Thanks,
