Sir, I am going to join a company as an admin head so I need your advice on how to work in administration. I have experience working in admin but have not handled the entire admin department before. In the new company, I will be working as the head, so please provide some advice on how to handle it and what kind of work I will need to manage in this role. I am familiar with this type of work but would appreciate your guidance.

Dear Ruchika, as you are already working in Admin, you might be aware of the basic roles in Admin such as staff facilities, attendance rules, stationery procurement and issues, transport, canteen, uniforms, identity cards, liaisoning, record maintenance, housekeeping, etc. When you opt to be the Head of Admin in another concern/organization, it will be a supervisory post for the entire area, involving handling a team, coordinating with other HODs, delivering on time, and ensuring the smooth flow of operations.

You simply need to lead the team, build rapport with colleagues and other HODs, and fulfill your responsibilities. However, you need to be assertive with your team on one side to achieve results. Being assertive, as you may know, does not mean being harsh but ensuring tasks are completed as required.

Best of luck in your new assignment.
