Please let me know is it necessary to sign on revenue stamp in a register if salary is debited in salary account?if not then can you please provide me the documents as to where this thing is mentioned.please help me inthis matter.
If the salary is credited into the employees bank account, then you dont need to take signature from employee on the revenue stamp. Collecting signature and on revenue stamp is for cash payments only. Not for bank transfers. You have to mention the cheque no or Bank transfer date in that column with bank account numbe.
You need to give more information of your company type and region you are located to suggest you the forms required to be followed.

Hi
If salary is been transferred to their respective bank accounts then it is not required. Days was where in they were taking the signature on the revenue stamps when they were making payments by cash. Now a days most of them are receiving salary by cheque or by account transfers.
As advised by Mr. Deepak it is required only for cash payments and if at all required you can maintain the register and get signed with no revenue stamp but its not mandatory.
More over in Bangalore revenue stamps are not available.

If you are paying salary in cash and you need to get receipt of payment made, what is your standing order saying? Such aspects must be got covered under your own certified SO. However, if it is silent or you need a practical solution in today's context as revenue stamps are not available even in most cities then display on notice board a notice copy to Labour department that employees dues including salary, bonus etc henceforth if paid in cash then concerned employees have to acknowledge receipt of payment with their signature or thumb impressions there in the register.
thank you everyone for your reply.and as for Mr. Stephen we are an educational institution in Gujarat.Even I know that where we pay in cash then only we need to get the signature on revenue stamp but here our accounts department says that we need to maintain that system of signing the revenue stamp inorder to be ready with documents when the labour department comes for any type of enqiry.I just want to know is it necessary for that?
Further to Ms Smita, i heard that, if cash transaction is more than 5000 than only we need to take sign on revenue stamp otherwise it is not required.
correct me if my knowledge required to be updated.
Regards
Amit
