Understanding EHS and Its Requirements

EHS stands for Environment, Health, and Safety. Companies choose to pursue EMS and OHSAS certifications based on ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007, respectively. The most crucial aspects involve identifying applicable legal requirements and establishing procedures to ensure compliance with them. If a company achieves 100% compliance with its legal obligations, it is considered to be 70% closer to obtaining the certifications.

Once the legal requirements are met, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment should be conducted under OHSAS 18001, while Aspect Identification and Impact Assessment are essential under ISO 14001. Following these evaluations, improvement plans need to be developed to reduce risks beyond acceptable levels and minimize adverse impacts on the environment through objectives and targets.

Please review these standards and reach out if you require any further information.
