Hello Everyone, we are a start up company, and I have been chosen to lead the entire HR department, now, I am trying to put things into place one at a time, however feel that my 4 years of experience as an HR is not adequate. Can someone help me with a checklist of things that need to be done, so that I can systematically ensure everything is set up for the organization. Please. :-)

Hi Aswin,
When you work on a green field project where the entire department and process have to be implemented and executed
The 1st step is to make an internal process audit of the department see what all policies are there go through those policies and try to find out what are the lacuna's in those process.
If there are no policy then you need to frame the policy
also try to identify as per your org what are the statutory compliance to be adhered this is very mandate process to do
once you have identified and completed the above ground work
then you can work on the HR development part which involves structure recruitment process / good appraisal systems / Training and Development process & pay structure.
for more details you can get in touch

Dear Dev and Manjay,
Thank you folks for this update, Policies and Compliance I have put it in place, was just wondering if there was something more I missed out, we have our recruitment, documentation, mandate benefits (still working on the ESIC and PF) process going in full force, pre process and process training is happening, am working on the time frame and schedule for other life skills training, in terms of Employee engagement and Performance mgt, am still setting it up and trying to get a best fit model in place, payroll process is set up.
Can you guys suggest the best way for employee communications to happen for a start up?
Many Thanks to your inputs. :-)

Dear Ashwin,
Notice board and Intranet are the normal platforms for sharing information. However, please consider implementing social ERP such as Mango Springs or Yammer . These are designed to maintain a close knit between the employees. The culture is best set through the information systems.
A newsletter or even a team hurdle at a regular interval, such as fortnightly, can keep everyone informed. A Common emailer would remain the easiest option . Offsites are a great idea when you want to drive home a point which needs to be brainstormed in a different environment.
