Dear sivan
I think it is not necessary that the offer letter shall reflect salary amount since an offer letter does not confer any right to employment on the candidate.Other views are welcome.

Offer letter must reflect the salary offering to the employee as this is first copy of indent which the candidate/employee signs-on after the interview for the selected post. And it is this letter which reflects that the candidate is selected with the assigned salary fixed at the time of interview.

Dear Mr.Sivan What is the reason as to why the offer letter should reflect the salary figure and whether it’s absence will alter the character of offer letter. B.Saikumar

Offer letter is a document to have an MoU between employee and employer. There will not be any specific proforma or format for offer letter. A simple sentence reflecting the intention of the company to offer a such and such a job to the candidate, with a request to convey the acceptance of the candidate to take up the assignment, is enough. Based on the offer letter, the candidate may approach the company or firm, and negotiate with them regarding the terms of references of the appointment. Then, the appointment letter, mentioning the details of the salary and allowances ( CTC) as well as the terms of reference of the appointment, period of probation, extension, confirmation etc., will be given.

I absolutely agree with Mr.Suri Babu. There is no hard and fast rule that determines the format of an offer letter. There is nothing wrong if a particular mentions salary details in the offer letter. But the absence of it does not alter the caharacter of the offer latter. The time when a cotracrt of service frutifies is the time when the candidate accepts the letter of appoitmnet under his signature, which as Mr.Suri Babu said, sets various terms and conditions of employment including the details of salary.
