Could anyone give information about the Organizational development? like what is OD? Why is OD?

Organization Development is an effort planned, organization-wide, and managed from the top, to increase organization effectiveness and health through planned interventions in the organization's 'processes,' using behavioral-science knowledge.”
According to the definition OD is mainly used for developing an organization,OD is a vast subject it also includes change management.
Here applying behavioural sciences means applying various OD interventions to bring about effective change in an organization.
OD is a long range effort to improve organization's problem solving and renewal processes and also to implement effective change in an organization.

There is an increasing trend to maximize an organization's investment in its employees. Jobs that previously required physical dexterity now require more mental effort. Organizations need to "work smarter" and apply creative ideas.The effective organization must be able to meet today's and tomorrow's challenges. 1) WHAT IS OD?

Organization Development (OD) is the process of improving organizations. The process is carefully planned and implemented to benefit the organization, its employees and its stakeholders. The client organization may be an entire company, public agency, non-profit organization, volunteer group - or a smaller part of a larger organization.

The change process supports improvement of the organization or group as a whole. The client and consultant work together to gather data, define issues and determine a suitable course of action. The organization is assessed to create an understanding of the current situation and to identify opportunities for change that will meet business objectives.

WHY IS OD?

Profitability, productivity, morale and quality of work life are of concern to most organizations because they impact achievement of organization goals. The work force has also changed. Employees expect more from a day's work than simply a day's pay. They want challenge, recognition, a sense of accomplishment, worthwhile tasks and meaningful relationships with their managers and co-workers. When these needs are not met, performance declines.

Today's customers demand continually improving quality, rapid product or service delivery; fast turn-around time on changes, competitive pricing and other features that are best achieved in complex environments by innovative organizational practices.

The effective organization must be able to meet today's and tomorrow's challenges. Adaptability and responsiveness are essential to survive and thrive.

Hi it is a very general and an important for every organistation to have the OD because it shows how your organisation grows and what all other things in our organisation which is missing which org. has to implemented it also shows the hirearchy of your organsiation u need to prepare the organisation chart also to fill the gap.

Organisation Development means anything changes within the organisation to better service to the customer or to the Employees within organisation.
To Survive in Competitive market organisation go for Development. Development in the area of Technology, Policies, Strategies etc. even Organisation can go for some Change on organisation like give good facilities to the Employees. Give them a Training, Education, Change the attitude of employees towards Company, Creating good Image of Organisation in the mind of Employees and Customer. So this are the little steps for Organisation Development. There are many many strategies and planning for Organisation development & its a very long process for any organisation...

OD is an important tool to improve the efficacy of an orgn. with a view to constantly monitor its performance and diagonise its strenghs and weakness seamlessly to enhance the strenghts and weed out its weakness so that the orgn. performs better than ever. It is done by an O.D expert or interventionist with the cooperation of the Management so that the orgn. does muster strength to scale new heights in productivity and performance and ahead of their competitors.
When the performance is poor in any or many fields, OD
