Hi all, I am working as an HR executive in a company, and I don't have much experience in HR. I need to prepare an HR process for my company. Can anyone guide me on what should be the format for an HR process?

Difference Between Policies and Procedures

According to one of the references, the difference between policies and procedures is as follows:

A policy is a guiding principle used to set direction in an organization. A procedure is a series of steps to be followed as a consistent and repetitive approach to accomplish an end result. Together, they are used to empower the people responsible for a process with the direction and consistency they need for successful process improvement.

Hi Khyati, nice to read your suggestions. I am also working in a small IT company. I am the one who has set up the whole HR department after joining. Can you suggest some innovative ways to motivate IT employees? I usually organize HR activities on a weekly basis, but would like to learn more ways from you and your experience.

Hi Shilpishikha, I'd like to know something from you. What process do you need to prepare for your company? Are you the only person in your HR department, or are you going to set up a new HR department?

If you want to learn and understand the workings of Human Resources and their functions, you must go through the old posts with the same subjects/topics that have been discussed by numerous Cite Members on Human Resources, HR Career, Value, and Importance of HR, HR Functions. It will give you the basic understanding, knowledge, and confidence to do your work.

Secondly, in your response to Khyati, I second her and would like to request you to use the SEARCH option located at the top of the Cite page, or you can also search through Mr. Google. There are numerous resources available on the web. Please utilize the SEARCH OPTION. Thanks for your inputs, Khyati!

Thirdly, I have something for you that you can use to learn more about HR and its functions. I call them "My 7 Stars of HR." Here are the pages... just go through them, and I'm sure they will help you understand your work and much more...

However, for designing HR policies, procedures, and processes, you must consult your superiors/seniors first because this is not an easy task. Formulating policies, procedures, and processes is not just a difficult task, but implementing, reviewing, redesigning, and introducing HR policies can only be done by authorized administrative personnel. They have to do and recognize a lot more in this regard.

For example:

- For Policy & Procedure for Canteen Management, you have to start with the location, Vendor, Facilities for Employees/Workers, Food and Items along with Rate List for the same, and many more...
- For Policy & Procedure for Security Management - One has to establish a system (Factory Round if you are going to implement this for a FACTORY), Maintaining Log Books/Registers/Records for the incoming and outgoing employees/visitors, Gate Passes-IN & OUT, Punching System for Attendance, Shifts/Changing of Security Personnel, and much more...
- Policy & Procedure for Scrap/Wastage

For every system and working style, there is a POLICY PROCEDURE & PROCESS, and one must not only work on them but also keep track of records of the procedures, processes, formats/forms in line with organizational goals...

Note: Khyati, dear, you can post or reply with the links in a single thread too... please do not post multiple threads for things related to one subject.

Best of Luck

Dear Anil, Thanks a ton for your valuable time and reply! I need to prepare the overall HR process related to the functions of HR in our organization. My company's strength is between 50-100.

Except for me, the Head of HR is present in my company. He has assigned me the task of preparing the HR process. Although he is very supportive, I prefer not to seek his help for this task. I want to prepare this on my own, but as I am a fresher, I am facing some difficulties. With the help of Cite HR and you all, I have already started preparing the HR process.

One more thing, I am a new member on Cite HR and would like to know more about its functions.

Regards, Shilpi
