Innovative or traditional, it is to celebrate a birthday with cake. When you make the birthday baby cut the cake, it will make them feel on top of the world. Apart from this, you can give surprises. But overall, I completely agree with Prasan.

Hello Nigha,

Visit a temple or any other religious place where you can find a number of people who don't even know their birthdays, feed their bellies, and see happiness in their eyes. It sounds simple but really profound.

Thank you.

Dear all,

Thank you all for the feedback. Yes, it's true there will be cake and gifts, but I am searching for a way to surprise him/her on that special day. The company is small, accommodating 15 staff with a middle-scale investment.

Looking for suggestions.

Thank you again,
Nighar

You can collect birthdays of all employees during a month and observe birthday celebration on the last working day of that month in a conference call. Call all senior management team including CEO/MD. Get a cake and have it cut by the junior most employee of that batch. Arrange for snacks along with the birthday cake and snacks with cold drinks for all participating employees. Ask the senior management team to convey their best wishes and also allow employees to share their feelings.

If possible, please order one kilogram of good sweets packed in a gift pack and hand it over to the employee to take home and share with their family members. Please take photographs and display them the next day on company notice boards for the information of all employees.

We celebrate in our company as mentioned above.

1. Ask his/her wife/husband or girlfriend/boyfriend to join for the cake cutting.

2. Ask the IT guy (if you have one) to upload a birthday message with a picture on the computers of everyone on that day.

3. Don't forget to make cards... cakes get eaten, but cards are there to stay ;)

4. Decorate the room/cubicle/table with balloons before he/she arrives at the office.

5. Ask a party decorating company to send over a clown or something to sing his/her happy birthday song.

Okay... now I'm out of ideas.

Hi!

What you can do is collect all his photos clicked in the office or during various instances, and then collage them in a creative manner. After that, stick those pictures across the walls in the organization. This will really help him to feel more connected to the organization.

You can decorate the room with balloons, which gives a good ambiance. Include some cake and keep a surprise gift on their desk in the morning. Have many games like housie, musical chairs, and passing the parcel for everyone to play, reminding them of their childhood days. All employees can participate cheerfully. The ultimate result or outcome should be only smiles on faces. :)

Dear neighbor,

I don't know how much time you have. If you are in Chennai, I can help you. Show a video? Without his/her knowledge (the person whose birthday you are celebrating), get his pics, snaps, and all photos from the family album. Start from baby photos, school days, college days, first job, wedding, and then other landmarks of his/her life. Buy some, say, 25 videos of feature films. As you show the images of this person, follow this with a very popular Hindi song, maybe by Big B, Shah Rukh Khan, or whoever. Ask someone who does creative writing to make a commentary. Go to a studio, mix the above with a voice-over artist! Put a lot of humor and spice into this. Have a great party!

* If you send me all the snaps and give me about a week's time – and also send me his profile to ravishivram@gmail.com, I can make this film, say a 12-minute film for Rs 15,000/-? This includes all the above expenses.

Thank you.

Give two or three movie tickets for the first show (It will not affect the work time) and provide pick-up and drop-off facility by company car. It will be an innovative gift and create a good name for the company among family members.

Dear All,

Birthday wishes with a card signed by the CEO or head of the unit will always be the best and most economical option. If the card is presented by a senior official personally, it will add to its importance, and the employee will certainly feel motivated by such a personal gesture.

While it is true that any gift or memento will have its own attraction, continuing such a practice for the long term will have its own effect. Over a period of time, the focus will shift to the value and type of gift rather than the appreciation. Additionally, whenever any cost-cutting measures are considered, gift articles become the first casualty, and the basic idea of appreciation takes a back seat.

Therefore, it is always good to have simple and personal wishes in order to keep employees motivated at a lower cost and for a longer period.

Warm Regards,

Hi Aprajita,

Cake cutting with a small snacks party. You can make a birthday card and ask the team members to write a quotation, including managers. Additionally, the team can contribute money for the gift.

Birthday is a sentimental moment for everyone, so go to their home with cake/gift and celebrate the birthday with his/her family because we will create an emotional attachment with our employees. Lower or labor class employees can't buy happiness with cake; it's a wonderful surprise for them and their family.
