In February 2007, CM Bhupinder Hooda and Sonia Gandhi announced in a rally in Sirsa a raise in Haryana Minimum Wages from Rs 2,484 to Rs 3,510 for the unskilled category. The wages of semiskilled, skilled, and highly skilled categories of workers will also be proportionately increased. I'm not sure if the Haryana Labour Department has issued the necessary notification in this regard yet. You can check with the DLC's office in Gurgaon at 0124-2335102.

Rakhi

Dear Haryana state has declared/notified minimum wage rates for different scheduled employments for the whole of the State of Haryana. Thus, the government has not declared minimum wages area/zone-wise. Moreover, as per your request, the minimum rates of wages which are applicable wef 01.01.2009 are attached herewith for your information.

Dear Mr. R. N. Khola,

I have gone through your attachment regarding the minimum rates of wages (effective from Jan 1, 2009) prevailing in Haryana. I have two queries and would request you to please help me out. First related to category A & B as to how we would differentiate between them, and the second is have these rates been changed or are they still effective?

Your reply is expected at the earliest.

Dear Kamal,

We would like to inform you that the Labour Department, Haryana, via their letter No. 26708-800 dated 25.08.2009, has intimated the field functionaries that there is an increase of 32 points in the Consumer Price Index resulting in an increase of Rs. 73.92 in the existing minimum rates of wages w.e.f. July 2009. Thus, minimum rates of wages in different categories in all the scheduled employments have increased accordingly.

For your second query, we need to review the different designations provided in the scheduled employments. You can also decide on the categories by considering the various designations provided in your applicable scheduled employment. When adding an employment, the appropriate government assigns different prevalent designations to different categories. If any dispute arises regarding the finalization of the category, the Authority under the Minimum Wages Act will resolve such issues.

R.N. Khola
