Hi All,
Need an urgent help, in my company i need to take up the training session for improving the english speaking of employees. Most of them are extremely poor in english and make silly spelling mistakes of commonly used words too.
Can anyone help me out regarding the contents?
As of now i'm planning to take basic english grammer which is taught to 2nd or 3rd standard school going kids.
Please reply.
Thanx

Its a sensitive issue to teach English to working professionals. You would have to make it very interactive. Suggest use combination of audio- visals tools. You can show some cartoon movies also.. You would need to make it into one- two hour each day program spread over few days. Apart from written, spoken words are also important. You can share the key points once you have made the program for our feedback.

Hi Bhavna,
Please see the attached file. Hope this helps you.
I think you cannot really teach your employees good English, unless you leave all other activities and dedicate all your time towards it.You must only guide them.
Collect samples from the net for Common English Errors, Communication Skills, Common Spelling Errors etc and distribute.
I think your task lies in getting your employees interested in learning English and understanding the importance.
Ask some enthusiaistic employees to help create content which is directly helpful in office activities such as; How to write emails, How to make most of meetings, etc
You can also ask the managers to set communication skils as a KRA. If everything else fails, this will work.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Shikha

Hi Bhavna,
You can contact British School of Languages. They have various courses for Organisations wherein English learning is required.
We got BSL to conduct english classes at our office and the results were quite good.
They can even tailor make packages as per your need.

Hi Shikha,
Also please mention the approx. budget within which you want this training to happen. Starting with GRAMMAR is fine, additionally, there are books available on words used in day to day business communication, etc. Simple, cheap, effective manner of imparting learning.
You may also think of rolling out a methodology of sharing one or two words daily and encouraging people to use that in any of their emails that they send in that day.
More such simple, cost effective ideas.
Hope it helps.
Cheers

Hi Bhavna!

I don’t think I can give suggestion to you, but let me share what generally I do.
As per my knowledge whoever passed out their schooling will have the required English knowledge to speak and write. This need not be universal truth, so I just find out the standards of the trainees. I ask them whether they can understand my language while I am speaking in English or not. Find out whether they are in position to feel the mistakes when somebody uses wrong grammar, they need not be able to say what exactly the mistake is. If they can do both of the above, I just teach them tenses and make them to write too many own sentences. I make them to understand which tense should be used at a particular situation.
Fist I let them write positive sentences and then ask them to convert the same in to interrogative form. This will make them to think.
If they are not in position to understand my language, then there is no other option than teaching everything to them.
Most important thing is spelling mistakes are very common as Mr. Premm77 could catch one basic mistake in our mails. For the level of employees that you have mentioned, it’s not that important. I don’t think we can judge based on that.

Thanks and regards
