There is a difference between Earned Leave (EL) and Privilage Leave(PL).
Earned Leave is applicable at Factory as per Factories Act. Leave earned by each and every employee of a factory for every 20 days of work done by him / her is called Earned Leave. An employee who joins a Factory has to be work minimum 240 days and then only he is eligible for EL.
Privilage Leave is being dealt in other Shops & Establishments. As for my knowledge & experience (25 years) is concerned Earned Leave should be applicable at Factories (15 days in a year maximum-who joins on 1st Jan and for others who joins later in the year, are eligible for EL on pro-rata basis) and other institutions may follow Privilage Leave.
I hope you understood the point.
Thanks

There is no difference between Earned Leave and Privilage Leave. Some companies called it Earned Leave (EL) and some companies called it Privilage Leave (PL). Regards, Digpal

There is not much difference between the two, only conventional usage. However, PL/EL is calculated as , one day for every 11 days worked and all other leaves are deducted from such days for calculation except CL. Thus a person can have maximum of 33 days provided one has not gone on leave or absent from office for any number of days barring availing CL.

The Factories Act provide for Annual Leave with wages @ 1 day for every 20 days worked. Normally factories call it as earned leave and government offices call it previlege leave. The difference is in terminolgy, but for all intents and purposes it is the same.
