The entitlement for wages and compensatory off for employees working on National or Festival holidays in Kerala is governed by the Kerala Industrial Establishments (National and Festival Holidays) Act, 1958.
According to this Act:
1. An employee who works on a National or Festival holiday is entitled to wages at a rate of twice his ordinary rate of wages (double pay).

The Act ensures at least 4 national holidays ( Republic Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti and May Day either a day decided by the state Govt) and 9 festival holidays per year decided by the establishment and employees or Union with wages.
The establishment to pay, if the employees worked on those days of holidays. The employees can be required to work on these holidays with proper notice and are entitled to "Double Pay" for such work.
The establishment also frames policy of a leave where an employee opts in leiu of double payment as the case may be.
