During the service of 12 months, 12 days' leave for sickness and other reasonable causes will be called casual leave. After 12 months of service, earned leave is granted at the rate of one day for every 20 days worked.

As per Section IV of the Karnataka Shops & Commercial Establishment Act, the following provisions need to be allowed:

EL - Earned Leave

1 leave for every 20 days worked in the previous calendar year, with the ability to carry forward accrued leave up to 45 days.

SL - Sick Leave

12 Sick Leave days allotted for the year, with pro-rata entitlement for employees joining mid-year, which can be used for sickness purposes.
