Facing issues in EDLI & PENSION death claim of my father. Date of exit and death mismatch and Electronic challan also not there for 2 months.

Date Discrepancy and Claim Rejection

20-02-2019 is the date of death, but in the system, it shows 31-12-2018 as the cessation of service or any other reason. The company's PF agency made a mistake, and our family is suffering from it. Officers are rejecting the claim continuously due to the mismatch. I provided the muster copy of attendance and the "death while in service" letter given by the company.

Seeking Solutions

What is the way to correct it? We have submitted all the letters they requested but are not getting a proper solution. Kindly help.

EPF Organization's Employee-Friendly Attitude

This is the present EPF Organization's employee-friendly attitude. A letter declaring the correction, along with the attendance register, last payslips, etc., would serve the purpose of correcting the same in the PF portal. However, when the EPFO itself has declined to be cheaper than a private insurance company, we can expect such kinds of objections based on law. At the same time, if you visit the PF Office at 4:45 pm, you will find vacant seats. However, when it comes to their case, the law that expects them to be available till 5:30 pm will not apply to them. It is very easy for them to help the representatives of a deceased member, but they choose not to do so because they consider the members as slaves. They do not acknowledge that EPFO is an organization for the members, and without members, they have no existence.

Remedy for Establishing Death While in Service

The remedy to establish that the member died while in service to claim EDLI is to get a declaration jointly signed by the employer, supported by a copy of the muster roll to prove that he had signed the register till the day of demise, and a payslip to prove that until that day, he was paid a salary. If that does not materialize, send a complaint to the Commissionerate of the EPFO.
